It has been discovered that the root cause of the slowdown of JOGL applets
running in Mozilla / Firefox is the presence of the Talkback agent. See the

Added documentation to JOGLAppletLauncher indicating that Talkback
agent is responsible for slowdown of JOGL-based applets and provided
instructions on how to turn it off.
