20130704 10:50:57 <sgothel> hi Xerxes
20130704 10:51:05 <sgothel> .. and Good Morning everyone
20130704 10:51:08 <xranby> good morning
20130704 10:51:37 <sgothel> so I have a Nexus 10 tablet here .. i.e. should work w/ your directions 'eh ?
20130704 10:52:09 <xranby> sgothel: yes! the nexus 10 tablet should work!
20130704 10:52:37 <sgothel> Wade said hello again .. asking for bugs to fix .. so I gave him a few ideas .. yesterday (siggraph bug)
20130704 10:52:53 <sgothel> dunno whether he is up to things .. lets see
20130704 10:53:29 <sgothel> me currently refining fullscreen (again) .. for X11, delicate queries / criteria :)
20130704 10:53:59 <sgothel> so adding those native libs to the end of the lib list .. should do it IMHO
20130704 10:54:16 <sgothel> we have to see whether we need to add the whole path or not
20130704 10:56:22 <xranby> sgothel: due to google refusing to create a java binding for opencl makes JOCL a must have in the new android ecosystem
20130704 10:56:40 <sgothel> no need to motivate me .. yup :)
20130704 10:57:13 <sgothel> secretly hoping Wade does it .. well, still have 10+ days left
20130704 10:57:25 <sgothel> are the slides in shape ? :)
20130704 10:57:46 <sgothel> good thing: we probably have lots of stuff to show, as it seems now
20130704 10:58:18 <sgothel> i.e. the less work I have to do on slides now - the more I can work on things .. so lets see
20130704 10:58:22 <sgothel> nifty: check
20130704 10:58:36 <sgothel> worldwind: xerxes as well :)
20130704 10:58:37 <xranby> source: google decline official opencl support on android: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=36361
20130704 10:58:42 <sgothel> jaja
20130704 10:58:58 <sgothel> ARM is bitching about this too .. hence Wade .. :)
20130704 11:00:01 <sgothel> opencl: we are broken w/ 1.2 - need to fix or select 1.1 (tested w/ AMD)
20130704 11:00:26 <sgothel> last RC12 .. I was fixing one bug there, and saw that
20130704 11:01:42 * ebrayet (~Adium@anon) has joined #jogamp
20130704 11:03:10 <sgothel> @Eric: Good Morning and: Slides ? How can I show game on all devices w/o buying it for all ? Seems I cannot use it on all devices w/ same 'google' account .. etc etc :)
20130704 11:05:15 <xranby> sgothel: buy it on all devices :)
20130704 11:06:12 <sgothel> well .. like to show it at least on Linux/X11 (one desktop) and on Android (have one 'ticket')
20130704 11:06:41 <sgothel> so I guess Linux/X11 is Steam .. ? Does it work .. etc etc.
20130704 11:07:06 <sgothel> @Eric: .. and the slides ? (sorry for bugging .. but my job now till siggraph :)
20130704 11:26:13 <sgothel> @Xerxes: Better put all the info in the respective bug report - forum info is transient ..
20130704 11:28:17 * rmk0 appears
20130704 11:28:17 <xranby> sgothel: i try summarise opurtunities in the forum like test opencl using the ubuntu drivers on imx 6 boards
20130704 11:28:30 <xranby> sgothel: and issues that needs fixes in the bugreports
20130704 11:29:01 <xranby> ofc.. i can move the generic opencl on arm info to the wiki!
20130704 11:30:54 <sgothel> sweet .. do you have that imx board ?
20130704 11:52:22 <xranby> no :/
20130704 11:53:29 <xranby> it appers there exist some cheap android tv sticks in china shipping with the i.MX 6 GPU that can be reprogrammed using the linaro ubuntu 11.10 and the freescale drivers
20130704 11:53:59 <xranby> yet i have never seen these tv sticks here in europe
20130704 11:54:12 <sgothel> hmm .. dunno if we can make this in 10 days .. hmm
20130704 11:54:27 <xranby> the nexus 10 tablet is probably the most realistc goal
20130704 11:54:41 <sgothel> if you can send me an email of devices and where to purchase those in China .. we can try to be on time
20130704 11:54:58 <sgothel> yes .. sure
20130704 11:55:03 <xranby> unless we can obtain drivers for the pandaboard
20130704 11:55:13 <sgothel> that would be .. still n/a ?
20130704 11:55:54 <xranby> http://streamcomputing.eu/knowledge/sdks/imagination-technologies-powervr/ - "Texas Instruments has the drivers available, but only under an SLA. Contact your TI-representative for the most recent information."
20130704 11:56:08 <xranby> "There are no (public) OpenCL drivers available. Imagination only sells IP and refers to their licensees for driver-support."
20130704 11:56:35 <sgothel> well .. bad for Ti I would say
20130704 11:56:38 <xranby> the only public available drivers are found inside the Amazon Kindle Fire HD
20130704 11:56:46 <sgothel> oh .. I have one
20130704 11:56:51 <xranby> since people found out they got shipped with the drivers included
20130704 11:57:05 <sgothel> is that in your emails .. / forum or wiki page ?
20130704 11:57:21 <sgothel> so I can try on the evil devices later then :)
20130704 12:00:50 <xranby> i need to find an confirmation if the Amazon Kinde Fire hd really ships with the drivers included. right now i can only find engadget demo a prototype version :/
20130704 12:01:39 <xranby> sorry about any confusion
20130704 12:03:04 <xranby> i have added all confirmed info to the wiki and bugreport : http://jogamp.org/wiki/index.php/JOCL_FAQ#OpenCL_on_Mobile_ARM_SoC
20130704 12:05:33 <sgothel> thank you!
20130704 12:19:00 <xranby> sgothel: i can add instructions where to obtain CPU OpenCL for boards when a GPU OpenCL are not available
20130704 12:19:48 <sgothel> appreciated
20130704 12:25:54 * ebrayet (~Adium@anon) Quit (Quit: Leaving.)
20130704 12:43:09 <xranby> ok done https://jogamp.org/wiki/index.php/JOCL_FAQ#CPU_software_OpenCL_on_systems_where_no_GPU_drivers_are_available
20130704 12:51:27 <sgothel> https://jogamp.org/git/?p=jogl.git;a=commit;h=fa6e868a72b8fb3de8c96afbd71ab4d3ad33f6b6 <- Dealing w/ complicated X11 fullscreen and mode changes .. looks ok'ish now
20130704 12:55:21 <xranby> sgothel: want us to checkout and run the two tests?
20130704 12:55:41 <sgothel> hu ? ScreenMode tests .. pls
20130704 12:55:50 <sgothel> you could run all of 'em ..
20130704 12:56:10 <sgothel> bash scripts/make.jogl.all.linux-x86_64.sh -f build-test.xml junit.run.settings junit.run.newt.monitormode
20130704 12:56:31 <sgothel> then .. maybe 1-2 (1d and 2a) .. to check visually :)
20130704 12:56:42 <sgothel> if the gears is in fullscreen .. great
20130704 12:56:54 <xranby> do i need a multi monitor setup?
20130704 12:56:54 <sgothel> if only partial .. mode-change fullscreen didn't work
20130704 12:56:58 <sgothel> nope
20130704 12:57:22 <sgothel> haven't tested again w/ multi-monitor, but didn't change the code path for that
20130704 12:57:49 <xranby> ok... i will try add a second vga monitor just in case..
20130704 12:57:55 <xranby> and test with and without
20130704 12:58:10 <sgothel> *bowing ..*
20130704 12:58:53 <sgothel> https://jogamp.org/chuck/job/jogl/1029/ <- testing now as well :)
20130704 12:59:14 <xranby> sometimes you find these interesting not working if two monitors are attached but one not powered on etc
20130704 13:00:12 <sgothel> guess I have scared Eric away :)
20130704 13:02:38 <xranby> ok i have prepared a multi GPU multimonotpor setup. one montor on each GPU.. launching tests
20130704 13:02:52 <sgothel> you scare me now ..
20130704 13:03:00 <sgothel> both GPUs .. via one driver ?
20130704 13:03:14 <sgothel> all as one desktop ? or 2 X server displays ?
20130704 13:03:56 <sgothel> i.e. our Screen covers monitors attached to same display connection address, i.e. :0.0
20130704 13:09:53 <xranby> sgothel: all tests passed.. hmm it appears the DVI connector, that i thought was an extra GPU slot in AGP card was only some dummy cable expansion.. so it was only a single intel integrated GPU connected to two monitors ... oh well i hacve to try put an exta gpu card into this machine and retest... test report all tests logically passed
20130704 13:10:34 <sgothel> that is great
20130704 13:10:38 <xranby> but with unity fullscreen did not cover the unity application toolbar or the top border :/
20130704 13:11:15 <sgothel> some mode-change tests .. work this way now, focus the window .. then it will be ABOVE
20130704 13:11:46 <sgothel> that is the virtualScreenSize > fullscreenViewport hack .. required on some drivers
20130704 13:12:03 <sgothel> normal fullscreen should simply work
20130704 13:12:13 <sgothel> (as before that is)
20130704 13:13:16 <sgothel> but if virtualScreenSize > fullscreenViewport, we hook to the focus handler .. since we shall not claim ABOVE for all time, otherwise we would steal the feature of TAB select another application. Bug 771
20130704 13:13:27 <sgothel> err .. Bug 770 .. or both :)
20130704 13:14:22 <sgothel> also: getting the fullscreen focus works a bit better now, but it's X11 policy to not steal it ..
20130704 13:14:34 <sgothel> depends what has been focused before .. yes :)
20130704 13:15:51 <xranby> hmm, not sure how to test it...
20130704 13:16:09 <sgothel> 1d .. press mouse on fullscreen window
20130704 13:17:29 <sgothel> test03ScreenModeChangeWithFS01Post and test04ScreenModeChangeWithFS01Pre of TestScreenMode01dNEWT
20130704 13:18:45 <sgothel> test01FullscreenChange01 - Unity gone
20130704 13:19:59 <sgothel> oh dear .. unity desktop sucks .. freezes it's 'screen size' at a lower res .. while monitor has been reset :)
20130704 13:20:59 <xranby> the screenmode restore worked flawless on this machine. i am back to normal after running the full bash scripts/make.jogl.all.linux-x86_64.sh -f build-test.xml junit.run.settings junit.run.newt.monitormode
20130704 13:21:31 <xranby> ok editing scripts/tests.sh and change test order according to your suggestions
20130704 13:21:31 <sgothel> great ..
20130704 13:21:51 <sgothel> no change needed .. didn't suggest ..
20130704 13:22:01 <sgothel> just stating which tests should do what ..
20130704 13:22:22 <sgothel> i.e. a task-bar may be visible w/ test03ScreenModeChangeWithFS01Post and test04ScreenModeChangeWithFS01Pre of TestScreenMode01dNEWT
20130704 13:22:45 <sgothel> then try to press mouse in FS to focus: should go away - i.e. it wasn't focused before ..
20130704 13:23:08 <xranby> com.jogamp.opengl.test.junit.newt.mm.TestScreenMode01dNEWT was commented out in tests.sh
20130704 13:23:31 <sgothel> oh .. jja
20130704 13:23:35 <sgothel> ofc ..
20130704 13:25:30 <xranby> hmm i still see the launcher boarder and i have tested to click inside every newt window
20130704 13:25:40 <xranby> while running the com.jogamp.opengl.test.junit.newt.mm.TestScreenMode01dNEWT
20130704 13:25:50 <sgothel> and how is the 1st test ?
20130704 13:25:59 <sgothel> test01FullscreenChange01
20130704 13:26:14 <sgothel> I don't see the launcher here .. hmm
20130704 13:26:26 <sgothel> 13.04 .. Intel / Mesa
20130704 13:26:26 <xranby> i run with two monitors btw
20130704 13:26:28 <sgothel> 9.1.3
20130704 13:26:38 <sgothel> ah .. yes, makes sense
20130704 13:26:39 <xranby> 12.04 .. intel /mesa
20130704 13:26:46 <sgothel> then spanning is activated
20130704 13:27:01 <xranby> it spans across both monitors yes
20130704 13:27:09 <sgothel> see: Window fs: true 0/0 1920x1200, true, virtl-screenSize: [ 0 / 0 1920 x 1200 ], monitorsViewport [ 0 / 0 1920 x 1200 ], spanning false @ main-Display-.x11_:0.0-1-EDT-1
20130704 13:27:30 <sgothel> i.e. you still have newt.debug.Window property: look for 'Window fs'
20130704 13:27:47 <sgothel> so .. ok, and yes, unity doesn't go away w/ ABOVE :)
20130704 13:27:55 <sgothel> (a WM hint ..)
20130704 13:28:03 <sgothel> so .. all good, best what we can do
20130704 13:28:23 <sgothel> KWin .. does go away :)
20130704 13:28:40 <sgothel> KWin also stops compositor :)
20130704 13:29:02 <xranby> sgothel: OK, with only one monitor attached fullscreen == no launcher visible for the first test
20130704 13:29:15 <xranby> verified
20130704 13:29:25 <sgothel> great
20130704 13:29:45 <sgothel> ah .. need to stop compositor not only for ABOVE .. but also for FULLSCREEN WM state .. very good
20130704 13:31:29 <sgothel> .. and the unity thingy is only visible on 1 of n monitors right ?
20130704 13:31:36 <sgothel> then .. I guess ok'ish
20130704 13:31:56 <sgothel> in the end .. who is using unity in a professional manner anyways ? :)
20130704 13:32:16 <sgothel> EOL .. anyways
20130704 13:33:20 <sgothel> TestScreenMode01dNEWT - test04ScreenModeChangeWithFS01Pre - doesn't work here .. w/ unity, i.e. the size is not updated
20130704 13:33:23 <xranby> the unity thing was visible on both monitors
20130704 13:33:32 <sgothel> well .. unity :(
20130704 13:33:48 <sgothel> w/ KWin you can define the main monitor .. etc
20130704 13:36:23 <sgothel> so .. great news, thank you for testing
20130704 13:46:43 <xranby> sgothel: i have found something
20130704 13:46:59 <xranby> one of the reruns actually triggered a crash at teardown
20130704 13:47:38 <sgothel> which test ? one w/ rotation change (02*) ?
20130704 13:48:28 <sgothel> rotation change .. somewhat does not work in full fullscreen (02b) .. driver issue
20130704 13:48:45 <sgothel> here it cuts off the viewport
20130704 13:49:21 <sgothel> you use 13.04 mesa 9.1.3 - all dist-upgrade'ed ?
20130704 13:49:33 <xranby> https://gist.github.com/xranby/3a09c79cc21c9ee0d37c com.jogamp.opengl.test.junit.newt.mm.TestScreenMode01dNEWT
20130704 13:51:36 <sgothel> that's odd .. indeed
20130704 13:52:14 <sgothel> unrelated to monitor change stuff ..
20130704 13:52:57 <sgothel> but .. shutdown/init .. maybe a driver issue .. dunno, AFAIK we do run this pretty much from one thread -> no race condition
20130704 13:53:30 <sgothel> jogamp.opengl.x11.glx.GLX.dispatch_glXGetProcAddress0 <- that proc address invalid ?
20130704 13:54:54 <sgothel> we init this one at DynamicLibraryBundle ..
20130704 13:55:34 <sgothel> destroy: is never called!
20130704 13:55:43 <sgothel> i.e. we do not release the libs ..
20130704 13:55:50 <xranby> i am re running the tests.. and now everything pass :/
20130704 13:56:28 <xranby> oh. no destroy called?
20130704 13:56:49 <sgothel> DynamicLibraryBundle.destroy() never called
20130704 13:57:13 <sgothel> since it causes lots of troubles .. only at JVM shutdown .. it's done implicit via OS ..
20130704 13:57:39 <sgothel> so .. this is a driver race condition or something
20130704 14:11:33 <xranby> sgothel: .. on 3rd attempt to rerun the test i manage to make it crash similary.. but this time using EGL https://gist.github.com/xranby/b4a993a284bfaa62d490
20130704 14:12:24 <sgothel> for some reason .. the proc-address .. is instable ? that is sort of ridiculous .. hmm
20130704 14:12:41 <sgothel> i.e. proc-address of TKGetProcAddress .. right ?
20130704 14:13:03 <sgothel> I haven't seen this here yet .. hmm
20130704 14:13:11 <sgothel> (03:49:21 PM) sgothel: you use 13.04 mesa 9.1.3 - all dist-upgrade'ed ?
20130704 14:14:43 <xranby> no i use 12.04 with mes 8.0.4
20130704 14:15:29 * xranby checking for updates
20130704 14:15:34 <xranby> hmm actually there is a mesa update
20130704 14:15:41 <xranby> let me install that and retest
20130704 14:16:08 <xranby> before pursuing this any further
20130704 14:16:12 <sgothel> +kernel ofc!
20130704 14:16:17 <sgothel> best: do it all :)
20130704 14:16:27 <sgothel> I did it this very very morning :)
20130704 14:16:47 * xranby downloading 8.0.4-0ubuntu0.6
20130704 14:17:16 <sgothel> what the heck is that ?
20130704 14:17:26 <xranby> sgothel: i will keep this machine on the last ubuntu LTS
20130704 14:17:35 <sgothel> oh dear :)
20130704 14:17:52 <sgothel> well .. then ignore this task .. -> WONT FIX (old driver bugs)
20130704 14:17:53 <xranby> its the same setup that all the google employees use
20130704 14:17:54 <xranby> etc
20130704 14:18:03 <sgothel> Yikes
20130704 14:18:34 <xranby> Google "OS" is based on the last ubuntu LTS
20130704 14:18:42 <sgothel> well .. the JogAmp standard is Debian7 :)
20130704 14:19:17 <sgothel> me not care what Google/NSA uses .. really not :)
20130704 14:19:40 <xranby> hehe.. well :) i will then keep this machine to test it for you
20130704 14:19:56 <xranby> since we will get bugreports if its not working
20130704 14:20:09 <sgothel> ubuntu is most unstable - I use ubuntu currently only for testing latest mesa stuff .. for my lazy convenience
20130704 14:20:35 <sgothel> debian7 is indeed quite stable .. sure, no up-to-date drivers
20130704 14:20:43 <sgothel> but then .. you won't test w/ LTS anyways
20130704 14:21:26 <sgothel> however - this bug is only triggered by this manual pre-shutdown and then init .. so it doesn't matter, i.e. users don't do that.
20130704 14:21:49 <sgothel> iff reproducible on latest mesa .. sure, we should file a bug there
20130704 14:22:24 <sgothel> my debian7 mesa + intel: works also w/o crash ..

20130705 02:54:52 <[Mike]> sgothel: Hi sven, you got the right Mike. I was taking care of https://jogamp.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=365 . I have a unit test and haven't had the time yet to create a fix I agree with. The problem exists as it is an edge case. The Box averaging algorithm used will require a height of atleast 2 pixels or it will cause the buffer underflow.

20130705 03:01:40 <sgothel> thx for taking care of .. I don't know the details ..
20130705 03:01:57 <[Mike]> :)
20130705 03:02:08 <sgothel> if your fix is already better than existing code .. and doesn't break the world .. maybe do it step by step and make a commit .. already ?
