20130908 16:35:24 <dfj> This is awesome, as my friend put it: 'next time that twit tries to defer fixes until after the *next* release again, we get to mock him for moonlighting for the NSA.' :)
20130908 16:36:28 <sgothel> yeah, .. "no, I am not lazy - I do it preserve the freedom of the US' :)

20130908 16:38:31 <dfj> mmm tastes like... freedom.
20130908 16:38:53 <sgothel> to bad .. local Chancellor here signed the 'we like to go to war w/ Syria' declaration - probably incriminated herself .. since 'war mongering' is illegal in Germany
20130908 16:42:21 <dfj> I would seethe with envy, except I'm in Canada - we can't seethe; At least we war less.
20130908 16:43:09 <dfj> but - that's like a law against being daft - I recon it's hard to enforce. :p
20130908 16:43:18 <dfj> reckon?
20130908 16:43:20 <dfj> bah.
20130908 16:43:26 <dfj> afk coffee.
20130908 16:43:31 <sgothel> 'war less' ? I don't think so .. similar to what all of 'us' do .. going in .. helping .. etc .. oh well
20130908 16:46:23 <dfj> (than the US)
20130908 16:46:43 <dfj> we get to compare to them, since they are right next to us...
20130908 16:47:06 <dfj> not becasue they are a 'reasonable median' :p
20130908 16:48:32 <sgothel> oh well, guess if the majority likes to change this 'war based economy' and get some better ideas of 'saving the wealth' .. other politicians may get elected .. dunno, elections are soon in Germany - but I have no hopes :/
20130908 17:01:12 <dfj> this is my terror these days - so many countries have wepaons export as a critical leg of their economy - it requires that war be looming at all times.
20130908 17:01:26 <dfj> nvm the US.
20130908 17:01:41 <sgothel> yes .. Germany is top here as well :(
20130908 17:01:48 <dfj> sry - could rant on this stuff for weeks - and not convince anyone new. :/
20130908 17:01:57 <sgothel> should be a crime as well ..
20130908 17:02:13 <sgothel> i.e. prosecuted of deploying weapons 'illegal' to use
20130908 17:02:20 <dfj> ha!
20130908 17:02:28 <dfj> who would pass such a law. :)
20130908 17:03:15 <sgothel> in the meantime .. the US uses that excuse of illegal weapon use to gain power .. wow, if we would use the same 'metric' .. the US might have been attacked by the UN several times already :) haha
20130908 17:04:04 <sgothel> .. or maybe the have the ugly job to promote the war, while we all benefit .. :(
20130908 17:27:39 <dfj> the hypocrisy is so huge with the US attacking syria since syria is using chemical weapons... it's almost amusing.
20130908 17:35:47 <sgothel> AFAIK .. the UN inspectors task was not even to determine WHO it might have been .. so what they may be able to deliver is actually non-sense ..
20130908 18:16:59 <dfj> Yah folks blocking until the UN reports is weird politics as well - not that there is anything reasonably that I see that could be done. I just see a lot of folks saying things that don't make sense, and hence which suggest that the openly discussed rationalles are entirely orthogonal to whatever is motivating folks one way or another.
20130908 18:21:08 <dfj> Syria's oil goes to russia, no? so it indirectly affects the oil prices in europe... I can't imagine the US is hoping to get a finger into that, so thus I'm at a loss as to what teh US even hopes to gain. If they reassured russia that the oil was sacrosanct, then mebbe russia might be convinced. It just feels so superficial to condense these multi-facetted issuse to a single axis. That one axis seems to model teh US frighteningly well, outside of Israel, mind.
20130908 18:23:26 <dfj> unless - you assume israel and egypt are paid by the US to keep the Suez Canal open. Then the US can be reduced to oil alone.
20130908 18:23:32 <sgothel> .. i.e. 'they' don't like to coop .. w/ US-petrodollar scheme .. and also like to have their own pipelines .. so that little passage around Egypt won't be no more monopoly .. etc
20130908 18:23:32 <dfj> :p
20130908 18:23:38 <sgothel> haha
20130908 18:23:44 <sgothel> yes .. all the same ..
20130908 18:24:19 <sgothel> plus .. reparations .. i.e. bomb them 1st .. (weapons) .. then even allow yourself to repair it ..
20130908 18:24:55 <sgothel> I have been told that negotiations about the latter didn't went very well ..
20130908 18:25:00 <dfj> the canal is the strongest reason I know of to model the US's support of Israel, without assuming teh US has some sort of consistent, long-lasting moral dimension - which feels highly implausible.
20130908 18:25:49 <sgothel> well .. for some reason .. 'Isreal' seems to own the world .. hmm
20130908 18:26:18 <dfj> s|Israel|US|
20130908 18:26:22 <sgothel> the EU blockade against Iran (selling oil for gold) .. came into place after a nice visit from Israel
20130908 18:27:48 <dfj> folks talk about israel's power, but they have so little to offer anyone else, economically. I have to assume they are proxying for teh US somehow.
20130908 18:28:39 <sgothel> https://jogamp.org/wiki/index.php/SW_Tracking_Report_Objectives_for_the_release_2.1.0#Misc <- AWT-print / tiling done so far ..
20130908 18:29:24 <sgothel> but that is what it's all about it seems .. the economy .. as we know is a failure model, which needs growth ..
20130908 18:29:34 <dfj> noone would let themselves become dependent on Israel for long-term defence contracts - they sell weapons, but I'm going to guess they are shorter term contracts. I'm seriously sliding into speculation-land, though.
20130908 18:30:49 <sgothel> .. that printing thing .. a nightmare .. err new country for me it was, hence so many commits (add/remove .. play alone) :)
20130908 18:31:25 <dfj> My fear is still thath the US needs to retain massive weapons exports and oil imports - otherwise the economy will falter heavily, and you will have a very large military combined with a desparate government and angry populace.
20130908 18:32:00 <sgothel> if you have a hammer .. all you see are nails :)
20130908 18:32:42 <dfj> sorry - I worked on a large graphic report generation package once - I'm not touching printing again. :p
20130908 18:32:48 <sgothel> i.e. if we would trade w/o the need for growth .. (no interest) .. well, we could be just fine
20130908 18:33:14 <sgothel> yeah .. printing was .. interesting :)
20130908 18:33:17 <dfj> but... capitalism is meaningless without capital!
20130908 18:33:27 <dfj> hee
20130908 18:33:40 <sgothel> so I can offer my 'features' ... but don't need interest in loaning it to you!
20130908 18:34:05 <dfj> but then it would be obvious the folks accumulating money were doing it for the purpose of power...
20130908 18:34:28 <sgothel> plus w/ 'money' (virtual) .. generated arbitrary .. well, distributing it and asking to having it back w/ 10% plus! .. where shall it come from ?
20130908 18:34:34 <dfj> and - one of the powers is to shift the economy such that assets themselves can be used to make money.
20130908 18:34:35 <sgothel> right - it's a way w/o return ..
20130908 18:35:04 <sgothel> money is nothing, but the power to control everything, sure
20130908 18:36:13 <sgothel> solution would be a resource based economy, ironically this worked quite well in WW2 for the US etc .. no money, but they all 'worked' :/
20130908 18:36:15 <dfj> low interest/growth is not stable, as those with money and power can only work around low growth/interst for so long before their out of hedge.
20130908 18:36:20 <dfj> they're
20130908 18:37:12 <sgothel> hence .. the stimuli .. err .. war :(
20130908 18:37:24 <dfj> what would resources look like now, though - poorly educated and demoralized populace, unclear which natural resources are key for the next 50 years...
20130908 18:37:57 <dfj> 'yup - oh look at all this idle military'
20130908 18:38:02 <sgothel> http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=6A1FD147A45EF50D Albert Bartlett about the issue :)
20130908 18:39:23 <dfj> I home my fear is only that - but I haven't seen the US go for long without being in a war. amusing for a country which hasn't warred with a neighbour for well over a century. :p
20130908 18:40:16 <sgothel> well .. Mexican war doesn't count .. neither the slaughtering of the natives ..
20130908 18:40:51 <dfj> then, two centuries. :)
20130908 18:41:36 <dfj> thank goodness they aren't an empire, just ask them. :)
20130908 18:43:12 <dfj> k - I think my coffee has managed to start reaching my brain... I need to choose between code or laundry soon, lest I use up yet another cup of coffee on irc. :)
20130908 18:44:00 <sgothel> hehe .. guess me heading to OSX .. tests .. the infamous AWT/CALayer misplacement issue .. yawwn
20130908 18:45:14 <dfj> (my keyboard chan is flooded with linux discussion, here, kvetching about the 'man', and the minecraft mod chan is rambling about gl issues, it's sunday, but it feels like a friday afternoon.
