It would be nice to be able to query the jogl.jar for the version and
build/release information. This could aid significantly in helping debug user
issues and classpath configuration problems.

This information is available via the com.sun.opengl.utils.Version.getVersion()
API. I don't see how adding Manifest entries like Implementation-Version,
Implementation-Vendor, etc. will make it any easier to query such information,
and it is moderately difficult to add such entries without having to change the
version number in multiple places in the source base when upgrading it. JOGL now
prints the version when -Djogl.verbose is specified on the command line which
should be sufficient to debug most kinds of class path problems. Closing this
bug as "will not fix".

Apparently this is more necessary in the context of JSR-231. Reopening this issue.
