The thread http://www.javagaming.org/forums/index.php?topic=15866.0 indicates
there may be issues with the latest JOGL builds and NVidia's drivers on X11
platforms when using a context created on a pbuffer to query the available
extensions. Need to find an appropriately-configured machine to test on.

This was confirmed by the submitter as a mismatch between versions of jogl.jar
and gluegen-rt.jar.
